At renewal Mr Glasgow was offered renewal with his current insurance company, and an alternative quotation - £49 cheaper. The restrictions in cover of the cheaper quotation were explained to Mr Glasgow. One restriction was theft which was only covered if force or violence was used to enter or exit the property of Mr Glasgow. Mr Glasgow considered the restriction and chose to stay with his existing insurer.
Some months later Mr Glasgow’s property was entered by a person using a key (assumed copied) and his safe including the contents were removed from the property.
As the insured renewed his policy with the company that offered the broadest cover albeit not the cheapest premium, the theft claim was covered. Had the insured chosen the cheaper quotation his claim would not have been met as the company only paid for theft claims if force and/or violence was used to enter or exit the property. The burglar entered using a key, therefore no force was required.
The insured was given options, a full explanation of what each policy covered and cost. therefore he was able to make an informed choice choosing the more expensive premium that gave greater protection with less policy restrictions.
Claim was met.
Mr Jackson advised us of a potential claim. His friend in Portugal (who checks his apartment regularly), had found there to be severe rust on all chrome/metal parts in his bathroom. more...
